SUFFER + BAMODI + MEKARE KARE + FROZEN OCEAN live at the ROSEMOUNT HOTEL

Here is a video of Frozen Ocean, Bamodi, Suffer and Makare Kare (Japan) live at the Rosemount. Macka from Frocean put together the video and wrote a review of the show. It is totally sweet.

REVIEW OF GIG:

(Apologies to THE GIZZARDS who I didn't film this particular night.)

Mid 2010 it was confirmed that Mekare Kare ( Bass, Drum, Noise, Two Piece ) were coming to Australia to play a few shows with a one off show in Perth at The Rosemount Hotel. A few Perth residence complain about un-original music making it's way out to W.A. Shame on these silly sods, because this particular Wednesday night a few wierdo's were blessed with the unique opportunity to witness some specialized musical imports. Even though there was a bungle with the advertising in local publications leading up to this gig, there was still a healthy turn out to witness some of Perth's finest "unusual" bands to support.

Opening act THE GIZZARDS is a one man frenzy armed to the teeth with effects pedals, toy instruments, guitars, keyboards and some fuckin' funny banter and lyrics. If you had the soundtracks of Twin Peaks, The X Files, Space Invaders and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles playing simultaneously, took acid and parachuted out of plane into the sea, this might be the sounds heard during free fall. ( Or the taste in your ears depending on the acid. ) Not enough people were down for this spectacle, but the few that were witnessed pure fuckin' awesomeness.

The next band were a guitar and drum, two-piece beast known as FROZEN OCEAN. Storming through a bizarre assortment of genres, riffs, timings and tempo blasts, this band utilize the loud/quite, slow/fast approach and they do it very well. There was a lot of feedback, screaming, spitting and beer drinking, in between songs and random screams from punters which is good to see for a support band of this nature. This band are one of the most energetic, raw and original punk bands comin up in our fine city.

For those who haven't seen BAMODI play live, do yourself a favour. For those that have, this was a long overdue reunion that was met with massive smiles. There was only one original band member remaining, but it was good to see that there was laughter and smiles amongst this new line up. Although a little shaky, they we're still entertaining.

With a moshpit forming and the feed back starting to wail the loudest it had all night it meant it was now time for SUFFER to have their turn with the audience. These guys have had a busy as hell 2010, playing hard-core shows very regularly around Perth. This gig was a good opportunity for people who wouldn't normally see this band to witness them live and see what people are talking about. This band are brutally heavy and are some of the best original music you'll see live. Ever.

Now it was finally time for the next act MEKARE KARE to tear the fuckin' Rosie apart. These guys are incredibly technical and entertaining, totally mesmerizing and spectacular. The tempo shifts, timing changes, drops, peaks and flurries of noises are only a small part of what make this Bass/Drum two piece so strong. Playing songs from their current album Exotic Duo Tones almost note for note, they left the stage only to be summoned for an encore by Perth's noisiest. After the final song had finished it was all smiles and chuckles throughout the beer garden. MEKARE KARE are sensational and missing this performance brings puts a dent in your soul. If you ever hear that this band are playing live do anything necessary to see them.

Thankyou for reading.

I know there is some video footage from a gig we played with frozen ocean on the weekend for Macka's birthday. I hope it gets uploaded soon, that was swell.
